SMA SolarTechnology AG (SMA) and its subsidiary SMA Sunbelt Energy GmbH have installed the first photovoltaic system with integrated battery storage in French Polynesia.
The plant from 1,4 MW, installed on the island of Tetiaroa in the South Pacific, manages to satisfy the 60% of energy needs electric island, making The Brando resort a sustainable tourist paradise. On the island, moreover, it is possible to save up to 500 thousand liters of fuel every year.
The daytime supply of The Brando resort takes place exclusively through solar PV energy and batteries. The system guarantees a stable and uninterrupted power supply even when the sky is overcast or at night, or in the event of a generator failure. In fact, the electricity is supplied by the batteries, while the generators turn on automatically only if strictly necessary.
The seawater air conditioning system also reduces energy consumption by up to 90% and at the same time guarantees top-level comfort. Only two hotels in the world offer this system: the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa and The Brando resort, both built by Pacific Beachcomber.
