In June 2019, a trade union ordinance was published by the mayor of Ventotene and Santo Stefano to reduce the abandonment and dispersion of plastic waste, reduce polluting emissions and environmental risks. In force since June 15, the ordinance provides that disposable take-away bags in non-biodegradable and / or compostable material will no longer be distributed; that only dishes, glasses, cutlery, straws, disposable drink mixers, bottles, cotton buds in biodegradable and / or compostable material are distributed / sold.
These prescriptions are valid for merchants, even in itinerant form, commercial, artisanal and food and / or drink administration activities; the owners of catering activities (such as bars, restaurants, pizzerias, pubs, bathing establishments and similar activities), having, in general, the purpose of administering food and drinks, even in itinerant form, and the owners of hotel activities (including bed & breakfast, holiday homes and campsites); shops for foodstuffs (such as supermarkets, shops, delicatessens and any other food shop or center); traders, private individuals, associations and organizations on the occasion of public holidays, festivals, events.
Furthermore, resident citizens, starting from the date of entry into force of the ordinance, have had to equip themselves and use shopping bags made of paper or other biodegradable and / or compostable material, or reusable bags in cloth or fabric and can no longer use non-biodegradable bottles, glasses, cutlery, straws, cotton buds, drink mixers.
