In June 2019, the Mayor of Lipari issued an ordinance for the minimization of waste and the reduction of the environmental impact, prohibiting the use and marketing of polyethylene shoppers (bags for take-away goods), containers, disposable tableware and other non-material materials. biodegradable, including the Municipality of Lipari among the cities that are committed to reducing the use of plastic, in line with European guidelines.
The planned measures will however be gradually integrated, so as to guarantee correct and extensive information and, above all, to allow commercial activities to dispose of warehouse stocks: the entry into force of the provision, in fact, as specified in the ordinance, is set for January 10, 2020.
From that date, all fixed and itinerant shops are prohibited from distributing plastic take-away bags that must be replaced with biodegradable and / or compostable shoppers; in the same way, only the sale, distribution, use and consumption of disposable material of the biodegradable and / or compostable type is allowed, such as, for example, cutlery, plates and glasses of any shape and size, cups, bowls, bowls and bowls, straws, mixers for drinks, rods for balloons, cotton swabs.
The provision also involves public holidays and festivals in which visitors and tourists can be distributed to the public only, disposable dishes and containers of the biodegradable and / or compostable type.
The order provides for fines for transgressors up to the suspension of commercial activity, in the event of a recurrence of more than three times.
