SUSTAINABLE ISLANDS
Presentation of the 2020 report
Energy, circular economy, water, mobility, sustainable tourism. The challenges for the smaller islands and best practices from the world.
The smaller islands are isolated systems that can become the ideal laboratory to face the most urgent and important environmental challenges facing the world, where it is possible to apply innovative models in the fields of energy, the water cycle, waste, mobility and tourism. This challenge concerns in particular the Italian and Mediterranean islands for the protection of the natural and landscape resources present and the possibility of enhancing them with ambitious sustainable projects, as they represent a vulnerable ecosystem both from the climatic point of view and for the anthropic pressures linked to tourism summer.
THESustainable Islands Observatory promoted by Legambiente and by the CNR-IIA, it wants to contribute to understanding the dimension of this challenge and to push towards a change that can make these islands a laboratory of environmental innovation.
The event of 9 July will be an opportunity to take stock of these processes in Italy and in Europe, through the presentation of the second edition of the Sustainable Islands Report which analyzes the situation of the smaller inhabited Italian islands with numbers, data and specific data sheets. and tells about projects, experiences and good practices from Italy and from around the world.
The work done in recent years by CNR-IIA and Legambiente on these issues will be the starting point, but the goal is to make the observatory an accelerator of interventions in the islands, through the exchange of experiences and knowledge, the organization of workshops and events, the dissemination of periodic documents and reports to tell the potential and the urgency of a positive and widespread change.
