In the municipality of Malfa, on the island of Salina, the FTTH (Fiber to the Home) fiber optic network is finally available to citizens. This is thanks to the Open Fiber project he has created, with an investment of 227mila euros, the connection to the network of 633 real estate units and 7 public administration offices.
About 26 km of track have been built on the total 12 sq km of the island. The optical fiber was laid under the Enel cables at a distance of about 1,40 m, so as to reuse as much as possible the existing network of the municipality. The high-tech intervention was in fact conceived in terms of eco-sustainability; infrastructure has been redeveloped already existing for the 69% work.
The wiring of the municipality of Malfa is a step towards one Smart Island Salt Pan with no more connection problems for the Public Administration but also for schools, local entrepreneurs and for all the inhabitants who will thus be able have the advantage not only of living in an earthly paradise from a naturalistic point of view, but also of being able to carry out your activities in a normal way.
The fiber optic network in Salina is part of a larger project for the ultra-broadband in Sicily that sees 260 million of private investment alongside a public investment of 184 million for connecting all 390 municipalities on the island.
