A research project will be developed between the islands of Favignana and Lampedusa which intends to spread the use of renewable energy and create a virtuous energy distribution system in small communities, with the aim of promoting interactions between producers and consumers of energy. The project, financed by the Sicily Region, is called Blockchain for Renewables (BloRin) and is developed by Exalto in collaboration with Regalgrid Srl, the SEA Favignana SpA Electric Company, the SELIS Lampedusa SpA Company and the University of Palermo. It will run for two years. The intent is to create one platform for the management of solar smart communities for the promotion of interactions between producers / consumers, the "prosumers". The management platform, which makes use of Blockchain technology, will allow the active control and certification of energy flows between the plants distributed within the experimental smart communities that will develop during the project as well as allow the management of the associated economic flows.
In particular, the island of Lampedusa will be involved in the creation of a micro-grid that will involve a mix of photovoltaic systems and storage systems with the possibility of managing the demand profile of various users, thanks to Demand / Response programs. Once the photovoltaic installations have been completed, the project platform will be used to manage energy exchanges. The user who will not be able to accumulate energy, and therefore consume it, may transfer it to the network or to another user.
The island of Favignana will instead use the platform created by BloRin that will allow it to manage the charging systems of electric vehicles thanks to a bidirectional charging infrastructure that will allow electric vehicles to absorb energy or to deposit it and transfer it to the network in case of need. thus optimizing the quality of the network's operation.
