The Tuscan Archipelago National Park has commissioned a project for the creation of a service center and the contextual one redevelopment of the current degraded area located in the center of the island of Giannutri. The planning process was shared both with the Municipality of Giglio and with the Superintendency of Siena and thanks to the comparison and sharing between the various bodies, important contributions were received.
The facilities of the center will host: operational and support spaces the activities of the National Park aimed at hosting the functions carried out on the island and supporting the naturalistic and tourist activity; operational and support areas for the activities of the Forest Police; spaces dedicated to providing support and accommodation to law enforcement personnel or other entities and services connected to the Park's activity (personnel, guides, researchers); spaces for the Municipality of Giglio to support the staff present on the island. A First Aid station will also be set up as a health center on the island which until now was missing.
The new buildings will be built with the aim of minimal environmental impact, using sustainable materials and technologies such as wooden structures and natural components.
Having completed the authorization process and taking into account the numerous difficulties linked to the precariousness of the connections, especially in the winter months, it is estimated that the works - for a total amount of over one million euros - will be started by the autumn of 2021 with the of demolition and removal of dilapidated buildings, with the aim of inaugurating the new structure by summer 2022.
