THE POSSIBLE ISLAND is an Italian-French association that, from 6 to 30 June 2021, organized its first artistic and scientific residency on the island of Vulcano, in the Aeolian Islands in Sicily. This cultural project stems from the desire for an encounter between artists and scientists for the enhancement of the artistic and natural heritage of the islands of the world, without forgetting ecological issues. The island is like a prototype, an ideal territory for experimentation.
With the patronage of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO and the support of the UNESCO IGCP 692 Geoheritage for resilience program as well as the National Research Agency ANR-DIRE and the University of Clermont Ferrand Auvergne, the Eric Mouchet contemporary art gallery in Paris, in partnership with local institutions such as the National Institute of Geology and Volcanology of Palermo, INGV, the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station (SZN) of Messina, the Vulcaniamo association and the municipality of Lipari, collaborated with about thirty artists, geologists and international marine biologists for a program to discover the nature of the island made up of scientific, artistic and educational projects in collaboration with the population.
