The Ministers for Regional Affairs and Autonomies, for Economic Development and for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition signed the Memorandum of Understanding, dated 7 October 2021, for information, animation and awareness raising on the issue of ultra-broadband in the smaller islands.
Il Ultra-broadband plan for the smaller islands, part of the Italian strategy for ultra-broadband, is aimed at making available a connection to the network of adequate quality, to overcome the digital divide amplified by the insularity and technological obsolescence of current internet connections in the smaller islands, and to ensure greater effectiveness for territorial and development policies. To achieve this goal, the project provides for the allocation of a backhaul optical for the development of ultra-broadband and the increase in coverage of mobile radio networks, also ensuring the evolution towards 5G services.
Il National recovery and resilience plan (Mission 2, Component 3, Investment 60,5) provides for the allocation of XNUMX million euros to carry out these interventions.
Il Memorandum of Understanding launches an institutional cooperation between the ministries involved in the investment to carry out an information, animation and awareness raising action in the smaller islands affected by the ultra-broadband plan. An information campaign on the web and on social platforms, and a series of territorial awareness actions, either face-to-face or electronically, will contribute to spreading knowledge on the opportunities and benefits offered by ultra-broadband with respect to the daily life of individuals and families. , to the entrepreneurial fabric, to tourist flows and to the strengthening of the administrative capacity of local public institutions.
