The second international workshop took place in Malang, Indonesia. “Small Islands, Big Challenges – SIRaD 2025”, promoted by UNESCO and IOC-WESTPAC. The initiative brought together researchers and policymakers to discuss new strategies for resilience and sustainable development of small islands, with a focus on biodiversity, coastal tourism, fisheries, and environmental governance. Among the key themes was the definition of pilot islands to test replicable models of sustainable transition.
