In the islands of Fejø (Denmark) and the Azores (Portugal), two new studies promoted by the European network Clean Energy for EU Islands analyze the concrete impact of smart microgrids and ferry electrification on the local energy transition.
Experience shows how the combination of wind energy, storage systems, and port charging infrastructure can significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels while improving the autonomy and resilience of island systems.
The two islands thus become replicable innovation laboratories: they experiment with solutions that optimize grid management, integrate renewable sources, and support zero-emission maritime mobility, offering useful models even for small Italian islands.
