The European Interreg Euro-MED – Sustainable Tourism Mission Programme has published a new White Paper recognizing the strategic role of small Mediterranean islands as advanced laboratories for climate resilience and sustainable tourism. The document proposes a paradigm shift: from islands as fragile territories to islands as innovation hubs, capable of integrating climate adaptation, ecosystem protection, local governance, and sustainable tourism models. Thanks to their small scale and strong interconnections between communities, the environment, and economic activities, islands are identified as ideal contexts for testing solutions that can be replicated in other European regions.
