To date, the islands are the laboratory of the climate transition, where innovation paths in renewable sources, the circular economy, sustainable water management, mobility and tourism are tested.
The EFSA and ECDC's One Health report Sustainable islands - Observatory on the smaller islands, created by Legambiente and CNR-IIA, analyzes with specific numbers, data and cards, the situation of each Italian island and in particular of the 20 smaller islands inhabited and not interconnected with the electricity grid.
In the report, the forty-one best practices around the world , from the Pacific to the Atlantic and from the North Seas to Australia, are examined. These islands have already started a pathway to 100 % renewable system. These examples show how it is possible to enhance local natural resources and stimulate the economies of the territory, involving the residents.
